Notch

A notch removes a block of material from a face over part of the length. It is also called a lap or a rebate.

Notch. Drawn by the editor's own geometry code; right: the carved part in 3D.

Use a notch where two parts cross and sit into each other, or for a rebate along an edge. In the fitting workspace the engine adds notches for you where members overlap.

FieldUnitRange or optionsDefaultWhat it changes
Position Xmmfrom 01450Start of the notch along the part.
Angle°0.1 to 179.9Square (90°)Angle of the notch in the face. Unset means square (90°).
Orientationstart, endstartWhich part end the notch is measured towards.
Lengthmmfrom 1100Distance between the two shoulders, measured square to them.
Depthmmfrom 140How deep the notch goes into the face.
FaceTop, Bottom, Front, BackTopThe side of the part the processing is on.
Position Ymmfrom 0Full widthWhere a limited notch starts across the face. Unset means full width.
Widthmmfrom 1Full widthWidth across the face, as seen square to the part. Unset means full width.

Default: what Add fills in on a 3000 mm part of 120 x 120 mm.

  1. Select the part in the Parts list.
  2. Under Extra processings, click Add.
  3. Type notch in the search field and pick Notch.
  4. Set Face and Position X. Leave Angle at square unless the notch runs at an angle.
  5. Set Length and Depth. Leave Position Y and Width at full width, or set them to limit the notch across the face.
  6. Check that the part shows a green check. If not, open the Issues tab.
FormatStatusDetails
BTLxPartly supportedLap, with bounded rotation in the face and explicit limits.
BVN (Hundegger)Not writtenRefused: operation 0300 failed the shop check.
BVX2 (Hundegger)Partly supportedPocket, for plain axis-aligned rectangles only. Skew and explicit limits are left out.

A file that the app writes is not a check by your machine. See Export for what each format is for.
